SURPRISE – OUAZ Women’s Basketball got back in the win column as they defeated Nelson Arizona (0-5) 83-45. The victory puts the Spirit at 7-2 on the season.
The Spirit had a solid defensive showing, forcing the Warriors to shoot 35.2% from the field, and only 26.3% from the three-point line, and also forced 40 turnovers. The Spirit also bounced back offensively as they shot 41% from the field, 83.3% from the free throw line and 25% from three. OUAZ’s did do well with points in the paint as they outscored Nelson AZ, 42-24. The Spirit also got 39 points off of turnovers as they continue to be a disruptive force on the defensive side of the ball.
Three Spirit players finished with double-digit points, led by Brianna Humphries’ double-double (31pts, 13 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists). Charli Cook added to the effort with (11pts, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds). OUAZ also got contributions from Tiana Sledge, who had (10pts, 3 steals, and 6 rebounds), with Makayla Holthaus adding (8pts, 10 rebounds, and 1 blocks) on the day.
This will be the last game for the Spirit in the month of November, as they will not play again until Tuesday, December 3rd when they host Nelson Arizona once again at 5:30 PM MST.
